Job Description

Buyer (Plant Department) – RC Frame & Groundwork Subcontractor £50,000 - £65,000 + Benefits Hertfordshire About the Employer: Having worked with this contractor for the past 10+ years I have seen them develop in both size and capability. They now currently turnover around £130 million per annum, building concrete frame and groundwork packages ranging in value up to £50 million each for a variety of residential and commercial contractors and developers throughout London and the surrounding Home Counties. They have a very modern edge to the business while maintaining traditional roots. I know each of the directors of this business and I would highly recommend them all as leaders in their own rights, but also as a family like unit that bring out the best in each other. On a personal note, I believe this company is one of the best not only for the projects they help complete and not only because of their size and general capability, but also because of the environment they create. They go that extra mile to not only retain their staff but to truly keep them happy. Small things have been added to the office like a gym that people have access to all day! They have a treatments room where massages and treatments are available to everyone on Fridays. All you have to do is book in. And with plans in place for a roof top garden and BBQ area, I’d want to work here myself if I had the relevant experience! These little perks may not seem a lot in the grand picture, but hopefully they go towards showing what type of employer this is (i.e., a business that takes the time to take care of their people and give a little back). They really are a great company to work for and be part of. You can gain great project experience, to develop capability in modern construction techniques and you can be part of the values they believe in and a truly fantastic team. About the Opportunity: We’ve been asked to find a buyer to work with in the plant department for one of our best RC frame and groundwork clients who are based in Hertfordshire. This role will report to one of the company directors and you’ll have responsibility for the procurement of plant and tools, while liaising with sites and suppliers. While trade agreements are in place you may from time to time be required to negotiate on prices with suppliers but this should be normal for anyone who has done this before. So, all in all, this opportunity offers an excellent position with a market leader, but in addition there is potential for progression as you develop with the business. About the Requirements: To be successful all applicants need to have previous experience working as a Buyer or in a similar role within a plant department while working for a RC frame & groundwork subcontractor or possibly direct with a supplier. Either one of these scenarios will mean you have an understanding of all the items involved and the sort of rates for each. In addition to this experience because of the location of our client, all applicants need to be able to commute on a daily basis to Hertfordshire (just North of the M25). About the Benefits: The estimated starting salary for this role has been given as £50,000 to £65,000 and will be based on previous experience in this role. In addition to this you can expect additional benefits including company pension scheme and target-based bonuses further down the line. Outside of these package-based items, I do also consider it a benefit that you will be working for a well-respected business that has an excellent reputation for staff retention and career development planning. They hold on to their team, so you can be assured they must be doing something right! About Me, Your Consultant: My name is Andrew Jackson and I am one of the founding directors of Cityscape Recruitment Ltd. I have over 17 years of experience in civil engineering & construction recruitment, during which time, I have specialised in the niche sectors of concrete frames, groundworks, basement construction and demolition. So, what does that mean for you? It means, I work with the vast majority of the groundwork & concrete frame businesses in the UK and I can help not only introduce you, but I can give you up to date information on each of them, helping you make an informed decision so you can take your career forward. I’ve been doing this for a while now and I’ve maintained a positive reputation doing what I do because I don’t tell people false truths, I tell them everything I know and then let them choose. My job is simply to get you the options, give you the information and then let you decide what feels right for you. How to Apply: I am more than happy to discuss these opportunities with you over the phone or face to face in a fully confidential manner (you can get to know me while I get to know you). And I know this is an incestuous sector and I fully understand the importance of keeping things discrete. It would be ideal to see a copy of your CV to understand your previous experience and employment. In line with GDPR laws, nothing will be done with your CV / details until we have discussed the role in detail anyway, but having gained an understanding of your formal past, this may help when we come to discuss options.
