Here at Babcock, we are looking for Senior Environment and Sustainability Practitioner (Major Infrastructure Projects) within the Environmental Management function to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We are a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.
As the Senior Environment and Sustainability Practitioner, you will be part of the wider Safety Health Environment and Fire (SHEF) Department at Devonport Royal Dockyard. The purpose of the Environmental Management function is to help the organisation constantly improve the management of its environmental aspects and provide an insight into the levels of environmental performance at Devonport. This post will be heavily involved with Contractor performance, and maintaining the standards set by Babcock. A key part of the department is to develop systems and working practices, which lead to improvements in both operational site performance and the overall sustainability of the business.
You will support the Environment Manager in the delivery of environmental management and compliance within Major Infrastructure Projects by preparing reports and suites of information, liaising with Project/Production/Contractors/Equipment Suppliers to overcome or mitigate environmental risks and provide support with technical queries. You will assist with the Environmental Risk Assessment (ENRA) process, carry out Environmental Assurance Inspections and Audits, as well as produce audit reports and support the process of closing any non-conformances or the sharing of positive practices. In addition, you will drive sustainability throughout the organisation through a series of improvement projects.
What do I need to do the role?
You will be qualified to a minimum of HNC in a relevant subject or hold a NEBOSH Diploma. You will have a suitable experience of environmental management in an industrial setting, particularly in the construction industry ideally including demolition. Experience of working with Environmental Management Systems (EMS), particularly those accredited to ISO14001 and experience of working in a marine or dockyard or nuclear environment is desirable.
What else do I need to know?
You will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
We are happy to talk about flexible working. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.
