Firstly the reason the salary is so broad is because the client is open to speaking and meeting with people with 5 years experience to very experienced Commercial Managers who are on the higher range of the salary banding.
This client are a developer, not your typical house builder but somebody that builds iconic buildings in Zones 1-2. Being the developer, the successful Commercial Manager will be involved with all aspects that somebody from a traditional sub-contractor or main contractor would not have experienced before. Things like being able to give your opinion on how something should be built, which supply chain to use, what construction methods etc.
Our client work on projects from £40 - £350 million and work in Zones 1 -2 in Central London. They have a strong presence in Europe and are looking to grow and double their projects on site in the next 4 years. They have a very interesting culture and an amazing office in Central London.
This role will report directly into the Commercial Director but they have a very hands off approach to management.
What does the ideal candidate look like?
As above the role has a wide salary range due to them being very open to the level of experience needed for this position. However what is essential is that the successful candidate either comes from a Shell & Core, RC Frame, Concrete, Demolition or Piling Sub-Contractor or has at least managed these sorts of packages previously.
Have some UK experience due to the forms of contract and needing to have a knowledge of supply chain in the UK.
Be able to work alone and take initiative.
Somebody who can take no for an answer, take feedback and then come back with something better.
Lastly somebody who is open to working in a completely different way and who can think outside the box.
More specifics about the role with duties involved -
Provide advice on design and cost plans
Work closely with the Design manager and pre-construction team
Provide Input to and develop the procurement strategy
Build relations with sub-contractors and suppliers and add new contractors onto the supply chain
Prepare/coordinate preparation of the tender documentation
Be actively involved in managing trade packages on site together with the site project team
Deliver post contract duties including payments, contract administration, management of changes/variations and inputs to cost reporting
