Hear from the Hiring Manager… “We are looking for a capable and enthusiastic project engineer with a mechanical bias, to join our growing project team in developing and implementing novel solutions in decommissioning one of the UKs first nuclear research reactors, based at the heart of the country’s nuclear development programme, Harwell. My team is made up of experienced project delivery focussed professionals who have a diverse skillset and a wealth of knowledge in the nuclear field; developing novel decommissioning solutions to unique projects. I would welcome an individual who could bring experience of dynamic thinking and solution focussed approaches to working within another highly regulated industry. This role may suit someone who has previously worked in a design office environment or as a package lead engineer” Key Deliverables * Delivery of a unique complex project involving the safe decommissioning and demolition of a former research reactor and supporting infrastructure. * Assist in all aspects of the design development and management for a major decommissioning project, in accordance with Magnox processes and the decommissioning safety case, including (but not limited to): o derive Best Available Techniques through Optioneering studies o requirements capture for process plant and equipment and supporting infrastructure o support the Design Consultant (third party) in production of their design deliverables including directing the design intent and undertaking peer reviews o retrieve original reactor design information from the Harwell site archive o support Design Reviews, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments * Contribute to production of Project Execution Plan including design, safety case and commissioning strategies. * Possess a good working knowledge of graded application of quality assurance for manufacture including: * QA grade categorisation o Inspection and Test Plans o Execution of factory and site testing protocols (FAT / SAT) o Validation and verification of manufacturing inspection and test results o Validation of Lifetime Quality Records (LTQR) * Possess a good understanding of design and manufacturing drawing content * Provide technical supervision of construction/deconstruction activities to ensure compliance with design intent. * Manage hand over to systems/operations ensuring that all drawings, instructions and training have been supplied as required. * Liaise and consult with system engineers and other stakeholders throughout project life cycle to ensure efficient and effective project delivery. * Liaise and consult with system engineers and other stakeholders throughout project life cycle to ensure efficient and effective project delivery. Qualifications and Experience * HNC, Engineering Degree or National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 5/6 (Essential) * Design engineering experience within a high hazard and highly regulated industry (Essential) * Good understanding and experience of design, manufacturing, inspection, test and installation of equipment to specification (Essential) * Understanding of relevant Company and/or national engineering standards (Essential) * Working knowledge of the Safety Rules and working knowledge of risk assessment methodology (Desirable) * Demonstrable experience of use of AutoCad design package (Desirable) * Understanding of relevant Site Licence and Quality Management System requirements (Desirable) Salary & Benefits: * Competitive salary with access to performance linked pay progression * 25 days (equivalent) annual leave - option to buy or sell up to 5 days each year * Participation in Company Bonus Scheme * Up to 13.5% employer pension contribution depending on individual contribution amount * Access to training and development through the company performance management arrangements, supporting you in maintaining your personal Continuous Professional Development Additional Information: Please be aware this role holder requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, or the ability to obtain said clearance We value the unique differences that each of our colleagues bring to work every day and are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels respected, included, and able to perform at their best.
