H9 Technical Recruitment are recruiting for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join an established Developer, Owner & Operator of an existing power station which is currently going through a conversion to utilise derived fuel pellets, allowing it to generate economically viable & sustainable energy. The role is based in Newport, Wales and will be responsible for the initial fuel handling package (c£8 - 12m) and then the management of the EPC contractor delivering the overall project.
Work Package leadership and field checks to ensure compliance with the company's Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies across all activities.
Full leadership of one or more Project Work Packages, responsible for ensuring that all related management systems, processes, policies and procedures are adhered to effectively and continuously improved.
Ensure reporting requirements to Project Management Office are complied with in a timely manner to deliver accurate cost estimation for Project Financial Model, tracking of works progress for Project Master Plan and realistic risk assessment for inclusion in the Project Risk Register.
Ensure all agreements, queries, actions and deliverables from Contractors are recorded and managed for Work Packages to ultimately ensure inclusion within final contractual documentation.
During EPC Execution Phase, ensure Work Packages are managed effectively through detailed design, procurement, manufacturing, demolition, construction, and commissioning into final commercial operations and hand-over.
Ensure all work is undertaken with a sharp commercial focus without exception by challenging, reacting, and offsetting budgets which overrun by reducing costs in other budget areas without compromising delivered outcome.
Skills & Qualifications
Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline (Masters preferred)
Formal health, safety and environmental training (desirable) Formal project management training
Experience of working within the thermal power industry directly managing EPC or Large Contracts delivery on either new build or major refurbishment projects.
Experience of power plant generation asset engineering and governing principles. It is preferable that this should covers one or more of these areas; fuel material handling, fuel storage, combustion plant, boilers, rotating equipment, plant ancillaries and EC&I equipment.
Project management experience of Projects and Work Packages through conception, design, engineering and construction.
Strong IT capabilities with all MS Office applications. Particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint
