Our relentless pursuit of excellence is reflected in our health, safety, security, resilience and environmental performance standards We are currently looking for Fire Safety Assessors Successful candidates will join our small team of Fire Assessor's who provide Fire Engineering advice, support and deliverables associated with fire safety decisions during the design phase through to operations and decommissioning. Other duties of the role include: • Producing Conventional and Nuclear Fire Assessments for Safety Cases applying Fire Engineering methods as appropriate, in a fit for purpose proportionate manner, across the full building life cycles (design, modifications, operations, care/maintenance and decommissioning/demolition). • Developing fire safety justifications utilising Claims, Arguments and Evidence (CAE) tools or similar. • Producing and reviewing building Fire Safety Strategies, Plant Modification Proposals, Fire Gap Analyses and Nuclear Fire Assessments. • Supporting studies and inspections to identify fire hazards and control measures. • Providing advice and training on Conventional Fire and Nuclear Fire Safety. • Assessing the hazards and risks of fire and its effects. • Developing effective stakeholder relationships in the Delivery Directorate, including Design, Plant Engineering and site based Fire Professionals. • Providing Nuclear and Conventional Fire Safety Assessment support, to Sellafield Ltd. (SL) engagements with Regulatory bodies and other external stakeholders. • Proactively identify and share fire learning within and external to Safety Cases, as well as seeking out and implementing potential improvement opportunities and associated fire learning from other areas. • Providing technical fire advice on the design, installation, maintenance requirements for active and passive fire protection systems. • Contributing to the maintenance and development of Nuclear and Conventional Fire Assessment Safety Case guidance, fire related Engineering Standards and SL fire management system documentation. Principal Accountabilities • Understanding of Nuclear and Conventional Fire Safety. • Experience in delivering proportionate fire safety assessment and advice. • Understanding and experience of working with relevant fire safety legislation, standards and guidance. • Understanding of the Safety Case Process and Methods linked to Nuclear Fire Safety Analysis. • Appropriate knowledge and experience of the site wide fire protection management system, issues and requirements. • Ability to manage own personal development to work effectively within the team. Essential Skills • Ideally hold a STEM/Fire Engineering degree or equivalent (this may be as a first degree or as post graduate qualification following on from a relevant first degree STEM) or experience at an equivalent relevant professional level will be considered. • Willing to work towards full membership of a relevant professional body MIFireE (Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or other suitable Engineering or Scientific professional body) and committed to becoming a Chartered Fire Engineer through Engineering Council. • Application of relevant fire safety legislation, standards and guidance • Understanding of Safety Case Process and Methods linked to nuclear fire safety analysis. • Ability to apply Fire Engineering skills in SL context to ensure fit for purpose solutions. • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience. • Good report writing, strong numeracy and verbal communication skills. • Confident in liaising with Design, Engineering, Safety Cases, clients, regulators, contractors and third parties as required. • Proactive in seeking out improvements. Desirable Skills • Previous experience in fire prevention and developing Safety Cases working within a nuclear safety environment. • Understanding the ALARP principle and developing fire safety justifications. • Detailed understanding and knowledge of UK Regulations and Standards (e.g. ADB, BS9999, RRFSO, PAS 79, PD 7974 etc.). • Candidates with no relevant degree or post graduate qualifications with other relevant suitable Engineering or23234e Scientific professional qualifications and experience will be considered to join as a trainee at B4ZB level. Candidates would be expected to work towards completing a relevant first degree or post graduate qualification in Fire Engineering on a part time basis. • Training will be provided where there are gaps in knowledge and experience and will provided in line with expected SQEP levels detailed within the SL Conventional and Nuclear fire skill plans. • Further opportunities to develop and progress within the fire protection profession are available as part of the career pathway.
